Transmission fluid is usually red. In fact, transmission fluid should be red. It will start to turn brown as the transmission fluid ages. This is when it should be replaced. You should know all colors of automotive fluids, in addition to the color of the transmission fluid. Let’s discuss this below.
Other Red Fluids
Other red fluids that you might find in your car include the power steering fluid and perhaps the antifreeze/coolant. You will see that antifreeze/coolant can come in many colors. Depending on which brand you use, your brake fluid may also be red.
Blue Fluids
The windshield washing solution is the only fluid that can be called blue. Blue antifreeze/coolant is possible, but it’s rare.
Brown Fluids
However, there are some brown fluids inside the vehicle. The motor oil is first and foremost brown. The second is the differential oil. Thirdly, in some cases your brake fluid might be brown.
Clear Fluids
The air conditioner tends to drip condensation when it is running. This condensation is nothing more than water. Condensation can also drip out the tailpipe. The water is naturally clear. However, fuel can look clear whether it’s gasoline or diesel fuel. Check for any fuel odors.
Green Fluids
Generally, you will only find one green fluid in your automobile and that is the antifreeze/coolant. If you’re antifreeze/coolant is not green, you will not have any green fluids in your automobile. You can check the color of the antifreeze/coolant by looking at it when the engine is cold.
Orange Fluids
Orange can also be the color of your antifreeze/coolant. The color may be originally orange or it may turn orange because the antifreeze/coolant has rust in it. This can happen if the radiator rusts out.
Yellow Fluids
It is possible for brake fluid to appear yellow when it is brand new. Some brands of antifreeze/coolant may also be neon yellow. This bright color is used to indicate that there is a coolant leak in your vehicle. The engine could heat up if you drive it.
